Ask Marilyn? How about asking Potato Stew?

If its 75 degrees outside and the water in the pool is 84 degrees, why does the water feel colder than the air? I'd ask Marilyn, but why wait weeks when Potato Stew is right here!

Comments:
Depends on the relative humidity actually. High humidity, the water will feel cooler than low humidity.

It's exactly what PotatoStew said though. Human body sweats to keep cool. Sweat has to evaporate into the air. If the sweat doesn't evaporate, then the body feels hotter than the actual temperature. The pool basically pulls the heat away faster. So thus you feel cooler.

Obviously this doesn't work when the pool is hotter than your body temperature. For example: a jacuzzi.

PS & DM- as you should know Ask Marilyn is a column in Parade. Marilyn has the highest IQ on record- or something like that. Sa for you 2 (sorry I didn't think to mention you DM), you both are smart enough in my book.

I'm pretty sure highest IQ on record is actually held by some Russian lady that has like 13 graduate degrees.

Haven't even looked at a copy of Parade since I was... sheesh.. 17.
